DDR4 is a pretty hot discussion topic right now, and we became curious… can you expect to see a tangible performance benefit from running DDR4 compared to DDR3, keeping all other variables as close to the same as possible?

God.. The ads throughout all of this..
Id like to see the same results with ECC enabled on ECC ram and maybe some high speed network transfers….
Let me help you 8:01
You gain like 1-5 fps more and a little power saving. Not worth it at all.
Hmmm, someones lying: this is what my research shows, via google.
“DDR4 is still much more expensive than DDR3, but it also hits higher clock speeds. … Another big difference between DDR3 and DDR4 is speed. DDR3 specifications started at 800 MT/s (or Millions of Transfers per second) and some went as high as 2133. DDR4, meanwhile, starts at 2133 ”
Hmmm, it doesn’t sound like a bust according to the giving specs.
does DDR3 affect the games
should i get 12 gigs of ram?
when will DDR5 come out?
I’m confused. The i7-5820k only goes up to 3.6GHz. Was he overclocking it all the way up to 4.4GHz?
I’m still using 2.4ghz cas 10 ddr3. Haven’t felt the need to upgrade from Ivy bridge and ddr3.
DDeezNuts4
2017 now. Still using 16GB DDR3 1866Mhz and i7 4790k – kills anything thrown at it.
I still remember when DDR2 was the newest module yet.
Ya I came to the same conclusion on my own.. I WANT DDR4 but I have 32g Corsair Dominator so… I’ll be good for a while wtih my DDR3
Can I get you mail ID please
…and that X99 has WAAYY more transistors of the Z170…. 2.6 Billion vs 1.86 Billion
Is that DDR4 in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
Macs still have ddr3
Ddr3 is still the best with the lowest latency, the ddr4 is for jobs and not for gamers, 1080ti has drivers for the ultimate win, this means that win10 is not necessary, my ultimate is wonderful everything in it works, and with one Antiviruz paid has the most updates against viruz, I’ll never get rid of my ultimate, only if it ends completely in the question of programs and drivers of video cards……
I’d like to see a comparison between DDR3 and DDR4 on a Skylake CPU
*Hmm 2years later* “I’ll probably finally upgrade my 8gb ddr3 to 16gb ddr3” I have a i7-4770k so I reallly don’t need to upgrade everything( mobo cpu ram)
doesn’t he hurt your ears with his scream like a chimp on fire voice?
I do not know much about computers but I found a good MSI board with USB 2.0 jacks and has blue accents but it says DDR3 and I’ll be getting DDR4 can DDR4 work with this board
lol first part reminded me of the ps4 fanbabies
will ddr4 ram work on ddr3 motherboard..
As the price per MB of RAM drops, thirdparty (because windows cache sucks) cache will be a great performance boost. Adding some kind of cache tests will be nice when testing ram. Well read/write tests show it, but real world results are often different.
There are CPUs that work with DDR3 and DDR4, those of the 6-7 series, like i5-6500, it’s LGA1151 and you can use it with motherboards with ddr3 and ddr4
did ddr4 motherboard support ddr3 ram
Thank you for this, makes me feel better about being poor and only able to afford a DDR3 capable system. 😀
The last time I was this early, ddr2 was recently released.
and BTW DDR3 this test should have being made on a Skylake Platform with DDR3 and DDR4 at same Frequency
Was this recorded in 1995?
great video..
UPDATE given ryzen and implications?
Hi Linus, i´ts been over two and half years, how about another test with more modern CPUs. Also in different applications, like rendering or network speed. Great show BTW.
Make DDR vs ddr2
