This was a strange discovery i made regarding the Seagate Barracuda 8TB hard drive that costs 198 on amazon right now. Model number (ST8000DM004). Want to possibly buy it for cheaper? Buy the external hard drive model number (STEB8000100) and you may be pleasantly surprised to find the more expensive hard drive in it.
Here is a link to both sales, i make no affiliate money with either link currently because i am lazy and have not set that up yet. Hope this helps!

I’ll let you know what I find inside.
I will bet the stand alone drives are 7200 rpm and the ones in the enclosures are the cheaper 5400 rpm. That’s why the price difference. It’s worth it to buy the better/faster ones if you do a lot of data transfer, video editing, etc.
You misplaced the adapter….really? Thirty seconds in and I’m cynical.
Buying external drives to open up and install internally has long been a goto option for datahorders
i found this out with the 3/4TB drives…this is why i have 12TB space on this comp….
do not apply this hack to any Western digital hard drives closures because they encrypt them and they build the USB 3 plug their PCb boards
will the 125 flux welder work for some thing like this they start welding a 904 pls it is legal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGaieAg9mqI

This “hack” has been used for years. Some companies even use it (backblaze). Anyway, There are some differences, mainly the warranty is a year on the cheaper external drive vs 2 on the internal drive.
