My 5TB drive was not recognized automatically. So, I called SeaGate customer support and they helped to fix it, as follows. I typed ‘diskpart’ on dos command and formatted. It works.
DISKPART> list disk
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
——– ————- ——- ——- — —
Disk 0 Online 698 GB 0 B
Disk 1 Online 4657 GB 0 B *
DISKPART> select disk 1 < == be careful when you select disk number. Re-confirm its size. Disk 1 is now the selected disk. DISKPART> clean
DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk.
DISKPART>
After doing this, right click on its partition on under Computer Management –> Storage –> Disk Management and then right click on Disk1 (or whatever this 5TB drive is mapped) and navigate to format and assign a drive letter. Safely remove or eject it. Any PC can mount it.
Thanks for sharing this info Richard
Hi Richard,
can I wipe out all partitions and create a single one for my convenience? I don’t like such a bloatware and pieces 🙂
Can u use it for the Xbox one for downloading games
I’m getting one because. I’m at that point where i feel like my HDD’s might crash or do something. So a backup would be helpful. Not only that but i live in tornado alley and right in the middle of all that jazz.
Great review, I have the same model, but I was wondering if you recommend unplugging it when it’s not in use because the noise keeps irritating me.
never did put that note up about how long that wire was.
Thanks Richard for the review. Took me a while to find a review on this harddrive.
Do you know whether the internal harddrive speed is 5400rpm or 7200rpm?
What in the high hell?
I couldn’t get it above about half what you’re getting on USB 3.0, but clearly was getting USB 3 speeds. . .So I tried it internally and it went DOWN to about a third >.>
wtf man >.>
Thanks for the video! I just got my 3TB hard drive so far I am very happy with it:) Please make a video a year or so from now to let us know how it is holding up, I hear some people say Seagate drives dont last to long. I am not sure if that is true but hopefully it isnt
Does this only run good on desktops only or can you also use it on a laptop and MacBook?
is this Macbook compatible ?
Great video – thank you
For some reason my write speed is only aroung 30MB/s, but my read speed is 170MB/s. Any one know what is wrong? I see on yours you have the same write and same read speed.
Has anyone tried using this drive internally? If so, how did it go?
How is the external Seagate drive holding up today?
0:47 – Shout out to STD’s
Thanks for review planning on getting this for my xbox one
Thanks for this review! Just bought one today from Amazon. 🙂
not sure if you’re aware, but some other channel has taken and reuploaded your video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icf4anlor6s
Did you have any trouble with the USB 3.0 cable? I can’t plug it in to any ports on my computer. I took the cable to a computer shop, they could not plug it in either. Thanks for your time.
Hello there, I bought that exact same model on amazon too (awesome deal!!), I would like to ask you if your external HD make a regular fan/cooler noise? Nothing outrageous, but still pretty hearable in a silence room, and when you initiate it or during drive access (Or even after being inactive for a while too) does it make a tapping/clicking sound?
Seagate pages tell it’s “normal sounds” depending on the drive, but still not sure if it’s common for this model or maybe I should start to worry about… Thanks!! =)
