Intel recently released their 8th generation of Coffee Lake CPUs, and although we’re currently waiting on the mobile chips, you can get laptops with the desktop CPUs. I’ve got a laptop with Intel’s i3 8100 CPU, which has 4 cores potentially making it a great option. How well does it compare against the classic 7700HQ? We’ll find out what the differences are through a series of CPU and gaming benchmarks.
Gaming Benchmarks:
PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG)
The Witcher 3
Shadow of War
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Watchdogs 2
Battlefield 1
Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation
CPU Benchmarks:
Adobe Premiere
Handbrake
VeraCrypt
7-Zip
Cinebench
Geekbench 4
Passmark 9
Corona

Amazing video

Great review, Jarrod! Interesting how the i3 is hot on the heels of the i7. Maybe it’s because of the extra 20w TDP? Odd that the i7 is the power saver, not the i3.
So the i3 is socketed? Any possibility of CPU upgrades?
Keep up the great work, mate!
Jarrod, should I get a 8850H + GTX 1070 laptop or wait for NVIDIA’s next-gen GPU? Its time for my laptop upgrade but the GTX 10 series is 2 years old and almost about to get replaced, and with news that NVIDIA and AMD are going to be delaying their new GPUs I don’t know what to do 🙁
Also, what do you think about the HP Omen X?
jarrod, could you do more reviews on alienware laptops?
Exact unit on the demo?
I’ll assume that my 6700HQ should perform closer to the 7700HQ than the 8100, especially in multicore workloads.
You deserve more subs bro!
Why do you almost sound like a text-to-speech app?
Where temperature ?
Yay much awaited. Thanks a lot.
I think I’d still prefer the 7700HQ, just a feeling that maybe games might begin using more than 4/4 cores. I’d say 4/6 I the sweet spot for future proofing. Hopefully will see more gaming oriented 8th gen mobile cpus becoming mainstream.
great review!
Please learn how to pronounce “cache” correctly, http://www.dictionary.com/browse/cache
is it fair to compare desktop cpu with a laptop cpu?
love my 7700hq .. cause it can handle all of my tasks everyday superfast without lag <3
I would go with 7700hq considering it is a 45W and designed for Laptops.
I wish I bought my alienware 17 with 8th gen cpu upgrade. But it’s still fast anyway.
what is the laptop model with i3 ?
also, coffee lake is no joke
Wow. I3 vs I7…Again wow
Impressive. I would have sworn that the i3 would win since it is a desktop chip, even though is an i3. Great review! And what about the i5 8400 and the i7 7700HQ? In that case the i5 will win easily, but it could be interesting to see for how much.
Finaly proper high-end gaming on i3 possible!
Perfect review
U r underrated man !! Keep the good work
