If you are really serious about testing power supplies then try this power supply tester with the LCD screen. The LCD screen on this power supply tester provides a voltage readout for the 12V1, 12V2, -12V, 5V, 3.3, and PG circuits on computer power supplies. This power supply tester is compatible with modern power supplies as well as older model power supplies. Older model power supplies are easily tested on this power supply tester because it accepts the 20 pin atx connector and is able to detect the -5V circuit. As far as new power supplies go, this tester is up to the task because it can test 8 pin cpu, pci express, and sata. This power supply tester weighs only 3.5 ounces and is only 5/8 inches thick so it fits good in your toolbox.

DO you have a user manual for this? Also, I see you have the SATA and the Molex connected at the same time. That doesn’t seem to make sense. Perhaps you should test them individually in order to ensure the leads are not faulty on either the molex or the SATA.

A friend gifted this to me with the “manhattan” brand , i have used it for  many psu’s and has correctly detected failing and dodgy Psu’s  in any case i always test the leads with multimeter and whenever i suspect of PSU failure i just swap out the clients psu for a brand new and see if the problem persists.

do i need a molex cable to use the tester,my psu doesnt have one.Its an ocz zt 550w but i lost the molex connecter should i buy another one off amazon or not.Will the psu tester work without the molex cable

The tester says it tests ITX but it will not. The ITX is a mini version of the ATX and they will NOT plug into each other.

No. For a load test, use a DMM on an empty molex plug. And run full load by running a CPU and GPU stress testing program at the same time. I personally run a distributed computing project that uses my CPU and GPUs, called folding at home(F@H). So I just run that for my annual full load test. I also have an Apevia PSU tester like this one, I use it just to make sure that PSUs turn on and have close to the proper voltage at idle. Generally if it idles ok, it will be fine on low % draw setups.

3:29 theis kind of holdup time test is actually not very useful. The minimum holdup time according to the ATX standard is jut 16 ms, which is far too low to test it by just removng the plug and looking how long the tester stays on.

you’re doing it wrong…
you have to put 20/24 pins connected (that is fine, they stay until the end)
but after… the voltages are indicated by lights on the left.
therefore you have to connect one to one … not all together

I just bought one of these on ebay for 13.00 it beats taking out the old power supply and having the new one not work…………………………….

I’ll stay with my old 650 Corsair and use the 720 for a backup cause it would be silly to use the 720 now cause the 650 has like 2 1/2 years on it.

+Wesley Lank Yes, it is possible to run the power supply tester in parallel when you are running the computer.  All you need is an ATX Splitter
